Forklifts

This course is intended for forklift drivers, with or without experience, who are required to inspect and operate all types of forklifts in a safe manner.  The course complies with CAN/CSA B335-04 and ASME B56-1-1993 standards as well as the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety (ROHS) and articles 49 and 51 of the Act respecting occupational health and safety (A0HS) administered by the CSST. Multitraining SST Inc. is accredited as a training body by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail for the application of the Act to promote the development and recognition of skills of the labor force (registration number 0056901).

 

TIME FRAME

  • Theory  – 4 hours
  • Practical assessment  –  approximately 30 minutes per participant

  • Introduction
  • Rules, policies and procedures of the company
  • Statistics and accidents (analysis of the cause of accidents)
  • Features of the forklift
  • Pre-start inspection
  • Capacity plate and its location
  • Responsibility to report a problem or failure
  • Moving with or without a load
  • Factors affecting stability
  • Handling of loads along the ramps and slopes
  • Driving safety rules
  • Identify the risks
  • Lifting and maintaining a worker in height
  • Parking procedure
  • Changing a propane tank and/or a battery
  • Multiple choice theoretical exam

 

PRACTICAL CONTENT

Assessment of the skills of the participants based on the following criteria:

  • Pre-start inspection
  • Startup and moving with and without a load
  • Safe handling of loads (respect the center of gravity of the load, etc,)
  • Parking the forklift
  • Identification of hazards specific to the company

 

Following the training session and subject to the successful passing of the theoretical and practical exams, participants will receive a certificate of training and a competency card attesting their skills to operate the class of forklift they will be driving.
